Wedding season is upon us…

Moving to a new area has its excitements and challenges. Since last July we have had a lot of fun with brides, seniors, families and newborns here in Oklahoma. We love it here.

With 4 weddings in the next 30 days, and my big belly, I think back to when Dustin started shooting with me. Never would I have realized just how grateful i would be for his contributions to our photography business. Not only did he tackle all the mysteries of starting our business, which he maintains and improves with his innovation, but he is an excellent photographer and teacher. We love teaching our classes, and meeting with clients. Shooting is always fun (even in this hot hot weather) because we have such fun people to work with. The coolest people find us to photograph them.

So right now Dustin’s off on a session while I get to spend the evening building towers and reading books with my son. What a great gift to each other that we can share these talents and be partners. Tomorrow I get to shoot a lovely wedding which I am excited for. Being business partners with your spouse is just the best, and is so much easier to share the load.

So a word of advice for upcoming photographers? Teach your spouse. You’ll always have something to talk about, and the pressures of the business are much easier to bear. 😉

But those of you who don’t have a spouse photographer (especially with little ones at home) how do you do it? What works for you? Share your thoughts for others to learn from too!

More about Amber

Born in Denver, CO and raised in Upstate New York, I have traveled the world and now happily live near Mullica Hill, NJ in South Jersey with my 3 boys and baby girl on 4 acres of woods. I've enjoyed shooting since 2001, officially becoming a business in 2006. Although photography brings me much joy, I try to find ways to craft and create in other mediums too!
