Our Philosophy | Salt Lake City Utah Wedding Photography
The most important decision you will make about your wedding day is who you marry. The second most important decision is who will be your wedding photographer. You will look at your wedding photographs almost as much as you look at your spouse. Let us capture the moments of your wedding while you bask in the moment.
Our Utah Wedding Photography Method
In short, we apply a mixture of both candid wedding photography in UTah (also known as photojournalistic utah wedding photography), and more traditional utah wedding photography. There is a lot of hype about candid or photojournalistic photography, particularly in Salt Lake City Utah. What does this mean? This means that the utah wedding photographer is less of a choreographer and more of a "secret agent," hiding behind the scenes looking for special moments to capture. The advantage is that the natural you is captured, and often the best you is captured. The disadvantage is that the creativity is limited by you. Aren't you paying a wedding photographer for his or her creativity anyway?
What is a traditional utah wedding photographer? A traditional utah wedding photographer is one who poses particular shots in an effort to make you look your best. I think the epitome of a traditional utah photographer (as we define it) is a fashion photographer. They are constantly making subtle adjustments: "Move your right arm 3 inches back, now turn your left foot out about 15 degree, point your chin down, now lift your eyes." The purpose of this is to create the perfect mood and the perfect image. (In fact, I often say in jest to a bride and groom, "I'm going to make you look so good you won't recognize yourself.") A traditional utah wedding photographer is paid, not to hide behind the scenes, but to create a stunning image of your wedding day. Ideally, a traditional utah photographer will creatively record your wedding and present you with images that are worthy of In Vogue. The disadvantage of a traditional utah wedding photographer is that your picture may not represent you.
What we do is combine the two methods into one. You will not only have your treasured candid moments captured, but you will also have a stunning creation. This may involve using a telephoto lens (techie term for a lens with a lot of zoom power) from way far back so people don't know they are being photographed, or it may involve setting up a phenomenal shot and saying to the bride and groom, "Forget I'm here and just talk as your normally would." (In fact, I had one couple do this for engagement pictures, and they started talking about computers. They had fun telling people that the "priceless" look on their faces was in the context of computer talk).
But in the end, we don't want you to take our word for it. Please browse our wedding photography portfolio, our engagement photography portfolio, and our bridal photography portfolio.
