One of the first things this momma from up in Edmond, Oklahoma said to me over email was that her family wasn’t good at candid photos.
I wondered if I would be the right photographer for them since I like to mix some posed and some candid. But her last family portrait was lovely, and I knew I wouldn’t mind hanging out with a group of obedient kids. So why not?
We finalized outfit ideas and location leading up the our shoot, and found a perfect day for us to work together.
When the family drove down to meet me in Norman, Oklahoma, I was excited to meet them. But I was completely caught off guard with how adorable little sister was.
We began with some traditional poses, but I quickly found that this family was a candid-photographer’s dream. Not only did they follow all my directions, but they had such fun and vivid personalities that were adorable. It only took a little bit of prompting to get all the snuggles and giggles and teasings into the right places for some images that showcase their family dynamics.
Here are just some of my favorites. Wouldn’t these images look awesome covering one wall in a living room with soft gray floors and mustard couch?
While we waited for the sun to get low enough for the last spot we wanted to shoot at, big brother wanted to hold the sun. Check out those rainbows!
Not only is she the amazing mother of 5, but as we talked for a bit after our session, she had some wonderful words of encouragement for me.
Being a mom is tough.
It can be wonderfully awesome, but it can be rough. Seeing Sarah a little farther ahead of me in the age of her children gives me a glimpse of what to expect. Every stage of my motherhood will be different.
And it is an exciting ride.
May these pictures bring you JOY Sarah, as you continue to mother these beautiful children.
